The TomTom turn-by-turn navigation app for the Apple iPhone is finally available.
TomTom is compatible with the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS and requires the iPhone 3.0 OS or 3.01. The app costs $100 and uses the Apple iPhone's built-in GPS chip to give users real-time navigation and directions.
The iPhone TomTom app offers most of the features found on the stand alone devices from the TomTom. The iPhone app features both landscape and portrait views, points of interest, 3D and 2D maps, and both night and day views.
One of the more interesting features on the iPhone TomTom app is the IQ routes. IQ Routes serves users routes based on the practical experience of millions of drivers, offering precise arrival times depending on traffic spikes during the day.
Navigon released their iPhone navigation app earlier and for a lower price even though TomTom was the first to announce a sat-nav application for the iPhone at the Apple WWDC event.
Costs
Navigon's Mobile Navigator North America [AppGuide link] is $69.99
TomTom's US & Canada version sells for $99.99
CoPilot Live North America costs only $34.99
TomTom is expected to launch a Car Kit for the iPhone app, which provides an additional GPS receiver, microphone, built-in speaker, car mount and charger, and an audio-output jack. The price for the TomTom iPhone Car Kit is currently unavailable.
Download the TomTom app from iTunes.
